Young kids have a brilliant imagination and an unquestionable belief in anything you do. This can be a great advantage when it comes to magic!
I often practice my magic tricks with my little girl (3yrs), she finds it absolutely fascinating to watch, and I love that I get to break one of the basic magicians’ rules, because I get “Do it again Mummy” over and over.
Not content with watching me do the magic, she wants to have a turn, so I find her own deck of cards that she is allowed to play with (mine are not for general play), then off she goes.
“Pick a card, any card” she says enthusiastically! I do, and then return it somewhere in the deck and she proceeds to ‘magically change it’ into another card from the deck!
Now it’s fair to say she hasn’t quite mastered the point of finding the same card yet, but nonetheless it’s priceless, so I congratulate her and she thinks she’s magic. (Well she is!)
We also have lots of fun making things appear and disappear. She is so easily distracted (a well known magicians trade secret) so we place a toy on the floor, cover it with a blanket and while she helps to smooth it out, I can remove the toy without her noticing.
When she pulls the blanket away, the look on her face is brilliant! She is completely astonished and excited that she can do magic!
Bringing the toy back (by reversing the procedure) brings the same reaction, time and time again.
Magic is great fun with kids of all ages and there are so many easy ways to entertain them and involve them with magic tricks.

The first one is a vanishing coin trick. Ask a friend to hand you a coin, and then rub it on your left elbow. Pretend to be in pain, and drop the coin on the table. Then, pick up the coin with your right hand, and feign placing it in your left hand. Now, put your right hand (which is holding the coin) up your ear and rub your left hand on your elbow. Drop the coin carefully down the back of your shirt and display your empty hands to your friend.

The next trick is a torn and restored napkin trick. You will need two napkins, one of which is to be opened up and crumpled into a small ball. Hide this balled up napkin in your left hand using a finger palm. To do this, lightly grip the ball against your palm with your middle and ring fingers with the back of your hand facing the audience. Then, open up the second napkin and hold it out in your left hand for your audience to see.
Other easy magic tricks for kids are the spoon bend trick and the jumping paper clips trick. In the former, you grab a spoon, press down on it with your hands, and appear to bend it. Then, you lift up the spoon and show that it is unbent. In the latter, you attach a pair of paper clips to a dollar bill, pull the ends of the bill, and the paper clips link and jump from the dollar.
